The British luxury car manufacturer Bentley is renowned globally for its elegant craftsmanship, luxurious interiors, and superb performance. All parts and components of a Bentley vehicle work together to ensure its optimal functioning, with the battery being one of the most important things.

The Bentley battery controls the AC, horns, taillights, headlights, ECU, music system, and many other parts. When you are driving your car or if the engine is on, the battery charges automatically. However, when your Bentley is not driven for a long time or if it’s heavily exposed to heat, the battery starts deteriorating. In this post, we’ll read about how to extend the lifespan of your Bentley’s battery.

Tips to Extend Your Bentley’s Battery Lifespan

The battery is your Bentley’s heart without which your car won’t work. Regular Bentley servicing and maintenance are essential to preserve the battery as well as other components of your luxury vehicle. Here are some tips to extend the lifespan of the battery and ensure its optimal functioning.

Regularly Clean the Battery

First and foremost, you must keep the battery of your Bentley clean so that it does not accumulate debris and dust. If grime builds up on the battery, it can lead to a short circuit, damaging the battery forever. Also, debris and dust corrode the terminals of the battery.

Therefore, you should clean the battery routinely so that there is no grime, mud, debris, etc. and the battery stays dry. You can also mix the baking soda into water and use a toothbrush to clean the battery and its terminals with this mixture.

Make Sure the Battery is Fastened Tightly

Every battery has a clamp that holds it properly in position and protects it from vibrations when the car is moving at fast speeds. If you do not use the clamp, the vibrations produced will damage the battery’s terminals and internal components.

This reduces the battery life and can even cause short circuits. Also, do not over-tighten the battery clamp as it can damage the battery of your Bentley.

Reduce the Number of Short Trips

The alternator in the battery recharges it when you drive your Bentley. As you start your vehicle, the battery gets a short workout and it fully charges when you drive your car for a longer period.

During short trips, the amount of power lost by the battery will not be recharged, reducing its life in the long term. Avoid short trips daily and try to drive your Bentley for long distances to improve battery life.

Reduce Power Usage on an Idle Engine

Whenever your Bentley’s engine is idle or off, make sure to turn off the wiper, taillights, headlights, music systems, and everything else that uses power. Using electronics with the engine off reduces the lifespan of your Bentley battery.

When these parts are on, they will put unnecessary pressure on the battery because the alternator charges the battery only when the vehicle is on and driving.

Minimise Your Bentley’s Exposure to Direct Sunlight

Most people believe that a car’s battery only dies in the winter but this statement is half true. The engine needs a lot more power to start in winter, but the battery does not permanently die.

During summers, high temperatures and excess sunlight evaporate the liquids present in the battery’s cells. As a result, corrosion takes place in the internal components and the battery starts to break down. Therefore, you should reduce your Bentley’s exposure to sunlight and extreme heat.

Store the Battery Properly When Not in Use

A long period of inactivity is not good for your Bentley as well as its battery. If you don’t have to drive your car for an extended period, then the best thing to do is remove the battery and store it in a temperature-controlled area. This will make sure that it does not get damaged due to excessive heat and also prevents corrosion.

You should also use a trickle charger occasionally so that the battery’s cells retain an optimal amount of charge. When you visit a service centre or supercar bodyshop, you can ask expert technicians regarding the proper storage of your Bentley’s battery.

Ensure Routine Battery Inspection & Maintenance

Over time, the battery’s terminals start corroding, destroying the connection between your Bentley and its battery. Even though you can’t stop this entirely, you can prevent it by regular inspection and maintenance of the battery.

Check the battery once every month and clean it using an anti-seize lubricant. Checking the battery voltage will also give you an idea of its effectiveness and health. Wherever you go for your Bentley servicing, make sure they inspect the battery.

Conclusion

Generally, your Bentley’s battery should work for 5 to 6 years but if you don’t take proper care, it will die within 2 or 3 years. It’s a vital part of your car, responsible for the proper functioning of several electronics and components.

By following the tips discussed in the above post, you can extend the lifespan of your Bentley battery. Always purchase batteries from a reliable brand, regularly cleaning and maintaining them for the proper functioning of your Bentley supercar.
